Creamy Homemade Hummus with Elegant Garnishes
This hummus recipe is smooth, flavorful, and beautifully presented with vibrant toppings. The combination of tahini, yogurt, and warm spices gives it a rich and balanced taste, while the garnishes add texture and visual appeal.
Ingredients
1 (16 oz) bag dried chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
1 garlic clove, halved
¼ cup tahini
1 ½ tablespoons lemon juice
1 heaping tablespoon yogurt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
Olive oil, for drizzling
For Garnish:
Whole chickpeas
Fresh mint leaves
Tomato skin rose (see video for technique)
Sumac or paprika
Fresh chopped parsley
Quartered nuts, fried in ghee and oil
Instructions
Prepare the Chickpeas:
Soak the dried chickpeas overnight in plenty of water.
The next day, drain and rinse them.
Boil the chickpeas for one hour. Let them rest until room temperature.
Remove the casing from a few chickpeas to improve the final texture.
Make the Hummus:
In a food processor, blend the chickpeas with the halved garlic clove, tahini, lemon juice, yogurt, cumin, and cayenne pepper.
Process until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed.
Add salt to taste (we used 1 teaspoon) and blend again.
Assemble and Garnish:
Spread the hummus on a flat plate, using the back of a spoon to create decorative swirls.
Top with whole chickpeas, fresh mint leaves, and a tomato skin rose.
Sprinkle with sumac or paprika and fresh chopped parsley.
Scatter the fried nuts over the hummus for extra crunch.
Finish with a generous drizzle of olive oil—this step is essential!
Serve immediately with warm pita or fresh vegetables. Enjoy!
