Creamy Homemade Hummus with Elegant Garnishes

This hummus recipe is smooth, flavorful, and beautifully presented with vibrant toppings. The combination of tahini, yogurt, and warm spices gives it a rich and balanced taste, while the garnishes add texture and visual appeal.

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz) bag dried chickpeas (garbanzo beans)

  • 1 garlic clove, halved

  • ¼ cup tahini

  • 1 ½ tablespoons lemon juice

  • 1 heaping tablespoon yogurt

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

  • Olive oil, for drizzling

For Garnish:

  • Whole chickpeas

  • Fresh mint leaves

  • Tomato skin rose (see video for technique)

  • Sumac or paprika

  • Fresh chopped parsley

  • Quartered nuts, fried in ghee and oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chickpeas:

    • Soak the dried chickpeas overnight in plenty of water.

    • The next day, drain and rinse them.

    • Boil the chickpeas for one hour. Let them rest until room temperature.

    • Remove the casing from a few chickpeas to improve the final texture.

  2. Make the Hummus:

    • In a food processor, blend the chickpeas with the halved garlic clove, tahini, lemon juice, yogurt, cumin, and cayenne pepper.

    • Process until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed.

    • Add salt to taste (we used 1 teaspoon) and blend again.

  3. Assemble and Garnish:

    • Spread the hummus on a flat plate, using the back of a spoon to create decorative swirls.

    • Top with whole chickpeas, fresh mint leaves, and a tomato skin rose.

    • Sprinkle with sumac or paprika and fresh chopped parsley.

    • Scatter the fried nuts over the hummus for extra crunch.

    • Finish with a generous drizzle of olive oil—this step is essential!

Serve immediately with warm pita or fresh vegetables. Enjoy!
