Fluffy rice with vermicelli is a flavorful dish that perfectly complements a variety of meals. The golden, nutty strands of vermicelli add a delightful contrast to the soft, fluffy basmati rice, creating a side dish that's extremely satisfying. Whether served alongside hearty stews, grilled meats, or enjoyed on its own, this recipe is a staple in many Middle Eastern households.
If you are not familiar with Vermicelli, here is a brief explanation: Vermicelli is a delicate, thin pasta that adds a unique depth to rice dishes. In Middle Eastern cooking, it’s often toasted to a golden brown before simmering with rice, creating a subtle nutty flavor and a beautiful contrast in texture. These golden strands not only enhance the taste but also give the dish a warm, inviting color that makes it a favorite at family tables and special gatherings.

Ingredients:
3 cups basmati rice
3/4 cup vermicelli
1 tablespoon Maggi chicken bouillon powder
Olive oil (enough to cover the bottom of the pot)
5 cups boiling water
Salt to taste
Instructions:
Wash the basmati rice: Rinse the rice under cold water, repeating until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
Prepare the pot: In a large pot, add enough olive oil to cover the bottom and heat over medium-high.
Toast the vermicelli: Add the vermicelli and the Maggi chicken bouillon powder to the pot. Stir frequently and fry until the vermicelli turns golden brown.
Add water: Pour in the 5 cups of boiling water and stir well. Add salt to taste.
Cook the rice: Once the water returns to a boil, add the rinsed rice and stir to combine.
Simmer: Allow the rice to absorb the water. Once the liquid is mostly absorbed, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
Steam: Let the rice cook for 25 minutes undisturbed.
Finish and serve: Turn off the heat and fluff the rice gently with a fork. Serve hot and enjoy!
